Causes of dry elbow skin? Learn how to cope with this problem

I bet that some of you, my Dear Readers, are familiar with this nasty feeling of having dry and rough elbows. Not always is it caused by neglecting the basic skin needs. Sometimes dry elbow skin might be an indicator of some diseases that your body is coming down with. What causes dry elbow skin in your body? Read on to find out what the matter is.

The reasons why your elbow skin is dry

I have to tell you that the skin stretching on your elbows is a little bit different than the skin covering other parts of your body. It’s thicker, more prone to keratinizing and it has less sebaceous glands. Effect? It’s often dry, rough and it even sometimes cracks. The causes of that may be:

  • genetic predispositions.
  • application of ill-matching beauty products.
  • body dehydration.
  • unbalanced diet.
  • some diseases.

Is dry elbow skin a symptom of a disease?

Indeed, dry skin on your elbows may be connected with some diseases. It goes without saying that you should seek doctor’s advice if you notice such symptoms. Basically, dry skin may suggest: diabetics, psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis and thyroid insufficiency. Together with dry elbows, you can also notice rosacea, itchiness and fatigue – wait no longer and visit a physician.

Methods to deal with dry elbows

Luckily, there a few methods of dealing with dry elbows, and they all are connected with one thing: skin moisturizing. To replenish your skin with water, you can use the products I’m going to enumerate below or follow a few simple rules.

  1. Ointment or cream – such products should deliver you deep hydration and leave your skin soft. Go for products containing either urea or acids (e.g. lactic).
  2. Gentle exfoliation – apply a body scrub to the elbows to help you get rid of dead skin cells.
  3. Diet – it’s really important to hydrate your body from the inside, but that’s not all. You must also stay away from: processed food, sugar and drugs. If your elbow skin is dry, you should eat more: vegetable, fruit, lean meat, wholesome products and a high quality dairy products.
  4. Hydration – it’s crucial to drink fresh water throughout a day. The daily water intake should reach 1,5 liter of still mineral water a day (this is what the scientist recommend).
