How to take care of skin and get them look neat? [my tips]

This week’s beautiful weather inspired me to write a short text about lip care and give you a few tips on HOW TO TAKE CARE OF LIPS?

I have this impression that the subject of lip care is somehow pushed aside because most of us think that lips don’t require being given any special attention. We conjure some bizarre skincare rituals, crazy hair treatments and weird eye skin procedures but we keep skipping lips. Don’t it deserve our attention?

Daily lip care

Taking care of lips on a daily basis is essential. We shouldn’t forget that lips are one of the most eye-catching elements of our face. Therefore, we should keep them neat. However, can we use the same beauty treatments to lips as do it when taking care of face skin? Well, not really.

It must be realized that lip skin is definitely thinner than face skin. Also, lip skin’s texture can’t be compared to face skin, which means that both skin areas must be treated differently. On the other hand, lip skin may be affected by the same problems as face skin is, and this includes dehydration, breaking, irritation.

How to take care of lips?

I’d like to tell you a little bit about simple lip care procedures. I try to follow the pieces of advice that I’m going to share with you in a moment, however, I don’t expect you to do exactly the same. Obviously, not everyone has as much time as I do. Also, you simply may not like some of the ideas that I present. However, when it comes to this constant ‘lack of time’ issue, if it’s hard for you to find a few minutes during a day to devote them to the lips, try to find a few minutes at the end of the week, when the weekend is on and you don’t have to rush so much.

Here are the basic rules of lip care:

  • moisturize your lips systematically (e.g. lip balm)
  • provide protection to your lips (from wind, freezing weather, sun)
  • exfoliate lip skin regularly (e.g. honey scrub)

The most popular lip balms

Obviously, the easiest way to replenish lips with water can be achieved thanks to using moisturizing lip balms. My personal fave is Carmex, which everybody knows really well. Yes, it looks a little bit kitschy but it delivers stunning effects. It hydrates my lips, leaves them soft and smooth.

What are other means of improving lip skin? Well, some time ago I used Vaseline lip balms. Sadly, too much of it created a result that was contrary to what I expected to achieve – my lips turned out to be dehydrated. Still, many people are delighted at the effects of Vaseline lip balms.

Another option is offered by EOS balms. These are highly popular lip balms available in various versions. Their biggest asset is that they are really convenient to use. Therefore, I carry my ESO egg always in my bag to take it out when I feel that my lips need a dose of hydration and protection.

How to moisturize lips at home?

Yep, there are thousands of home methods of improving lip appearance and moisture. My two favorite ones depend on applying either natural oil or honey.

  1. Applying natural oils to lips – in the evening I take one of my fave natural oils (in most cases it’s almond oil, but you can also go for regular olive oil that you have in your kitchen cupboards) and use my fingertips to spread it on my lips. I wait until it absorbs fully.
  2. Applying honey to lips – here the procedure looks almost identical to the one described above but obviously I use honey instead of natural oil. I use my fingertip to pick up some honey and spread it on the lips. Honey makes an effective humectant (a moisturizing agent) but sometimes I can’t resist myself and I lick it off before it manages to start producing the desired effects. Don’t do that!

Exfoliation, which is lip scrub

Another easy way of making lip skin smooth is by applying a scrub – a combination of regular beauty oil/honey and sugar. Keep massaging your lips with the scrub. In this way, you will achieve the following results:

  • get rid of dead skin cells
  • smooth out and soften lip skin
  • activate microcirculation in lips
  • intensify natural lip color

Actually, a regular toothbrush can be used as a good replacement for your home lip scrub made of honey/oil and sugar. Just make sure that the brush is clean before you start using it to massage the lips with.

Okay, these are my ways to get neat and good-looking lips.

What are yours? 🙂
