Skin benefits of tea

Why is tea able to improve skin?

Indeed, it’s the undisputed queen of skin care – constantly on top, still vastly popular makes one of the best ‘wet’ ingredients for all types of cosmetics. For example, tea can be used as a base ingredient for oily mists and clay face masks. As researches proved, tea contains a huge concentration of polyphenols that are responsible for eliminating these nasty free radicals that do noting but ruin our face and skin. Another substance that tea has – theine – activates microcirculation which means that it helps to deliver oxygen to tissues. Moreover, vitamins that you can find in tea help skin remain young and resilient.

Green tea: Source and properties

Green tea equals only young leaves and buds. They are treated with steam to help the leaves preserve their properties. In this way green tea becomes a source of potent anti-oxidants. It improves skin texture, smooths it out, soothes inflammations, slows down bacteria multiplication and prevents acne.

White tea: Source and properties

It’s obtained from the buds of tea plants. It’s a rich source of polyphenols and anti-oxidants. White tea is a strong elixir of youth that is perfectly suitable for all skin types.

Black tea: Source and properties

This tea contains only leaves of tea plants. It displays soothing properties, evens out skin tone and relieves sunburn. Additionally, black tea reduces swelling (handles puffiness under eyes) and is anti-inflammatory. Moreover, black tea is good at intensifying hair color. There are women who use black tea to make their brows more defined. How do they do it? They keep applying black tea brew to the brows for a few days straight, at bedtime. Once you are persistent, you can see the brows getting definitely darker.

D.I.Y.: The best tea cosmetics

Home tea face mask to combat wrinkles

Brew 1 spoon of tea in a half cup (use hot but not boiling water). Use only 2 spoons of the brew and mix them with 1 spoon of honey and 1 spoon of oat flakes (best if you use fine oat flakes; in this way your face mask will be smoother). Let the mask sit on your face for 15 minutes. I’d recommend you using white tea, but black/green tea will do as well. Actually, if your skin is mature/oily/acne, you should go for green tea.

Home tea face mask for dry skin

Okay, this recipe requires using a grinder. You have to make powder of the leaves. You need approx. 1 spoon of tea to create one face mask. In most cases I grind more tea and keep it in a jar to have it ready for another face mask 🙂

Use 1 spoon of either white or black tea (powder!) and mix it with 3 spoons of milk and 1 spoon either of wheat or rice flour. If you use rice flour, you can expect your skin to become highlighted. Let the face mask sit for approx. 15 minutes. You can use it every other day.

Home tea face toner

Well, tea face toner is nothing but brewed tea (green, white, black – choose the one that suits your skin best). I usually combine two types of tea: white and green. I clean my face with such toner every day. Sometimes I combine my tea toner with chamomile brew for additional nutrient boost. As you probably know it, chamomile is also responsible for lightening skin up so you should use it if you want to get rid of discolorations.

I use black tea as a remedy for puffiness that affects my eye skin often. I dunk 2 cotton pads in the black tea brew and then apply them to my closed eyes and keep them there for approx. 5-10 minutes. Not only does the skin become highlighted, with no traces of puffiness and dark circles but also it’s smooth and moisturized.
